FEBRUARY 2026 ENVIRONMENT REPORT

      Environment Report

      1. Haringey Parks Department – General
        • We are pleased to report that thanks to the help of Cllr Cathy Brennan, we will be meeting with the Parks manager on Monday, 9th February, in Muswell Hill. We will walk around all the green spaces and raise current issues, such as the raised beds in Midhurst Green, which have not been weeded since last February. We hope they will also supply the promised new rose bushes to fill in the gaps in the Green.
      2. MHFGA 75th Anniversary Legacy
        • Pocket Park upgrade. Once again, with the help of Cllr Cathy Brennan, a site meeting was arranged with the Haringey trees team regarding the pruning of the yew trees. This will now be undertaken. Cllr Brennan also agreed that the paving at the Pocket Park is a trip hazard and needs to be repaired. She will follow it up with the Council.
        • New Tree at the Muswell Hill bus terminus. We are disappointed by TFL’s rejection of our request because of “the impact of sightlines and the area being extremely constricted”. We believe there would be no such ‘impact’ and hope to arrange a direct meeting with TFL and the council.
      3. Muswell Hill Broadway Flower Boxes and the Trough. The recent cold, rainy weather has killed the geraniums, and we will be removing them from the flower boxes.
      4. Colney Hatch Lane Beds. After the pruning carried out last October, we tidied the beds and cleared the remaining leaves in January.
      5. New Trees on the Broadway. There are 13 trees still to be planted, and we have all the locations agreed and surveyed. The plan is to plant the trees later this February.
      6. Street Bins etc
        • We have reported to Veolia that the bins on the Broadway are sometimes full by Saturday afternoon. Veolia will look into the issue.A number of the street bins and the surrounding pavement look quite dirty, and I have asked Veolia if they can be jet-washed.
        • The owner of the new children’s nursery at the entrance to Highgate Woods, along with a few new residents in the area, has been in touch about the problems caused by the large bins near the entrance to the Woods, which have made it a fly-tipping hotspot. In addition, the foxes have often been ripping open the residents’ rubbish bags, causing a huge mess. The local residents have been very proactive, contacting Veolia and the Council. The issue is now much improved because Veolia agreed to empty the bins more often, and they have also leafleted the residents above the shops to remind them of the times to put out their rubbish bags. The good news is that the large bins will be removed when the new Cranwood development is occupied.
      7. Grove Lodge Gardens Path. In our December Environment report, we mentioned we intended to ask The Conservation Volunteers (TCV) to cut back the brambles and clear the path, which has become very overgrown. Cllr Cathy Brennan is of the view that this should be done by the council, and we will discuss the matter with Haringey Parks Department during the meeting with them in Muswell Hill on Monday, 9th February.
      8. Graffiti & Fly Tipping etc. We have reported quite a few issues and Veolia always react quickly.
      9. Police Matters (from Ward Panel discussions). We have a new Haringey Police Superintendent responsible for neighbourhood policing, Supd Hannah Hayes.
      10. New Cabinet Member for Climate & Environment. Cllr Mike Hakata has resigned from this post for personal reasons. His replacement is Cllr Ibrahim Ali (Bruce Castle), and we are hoping to meet with him soon.
