Conservation Report October 2026

Chester House, Pages Lane N10
At the AGM, the committee indicated that it would take a particular interest in this site during the coming year, following the announcement that the Methodist Church was ceasing its activities there.

It has recently been announced that the site is now the UK headquarters of All Nations Christian College. Its website describes the college as a private evangelical Christian charity focused on helping Christians connect effectively with people in different cultures. Students come from the UK and around the world, and its BA and MA courses are accredited by the Open University. Some courses are also accredited for Continuing Professional Development (CPD).

The committee welcomes the fact that there will not be a prolonged period of uncertainty about the future use of this large site at the junction of Colney Hatch Lane and Pages Lane.

New Haringey committee membership
The Strategic Planning Committee and Planning Applications Committee have the same membership. The chair is Cllr Scott Emery (Liberal Democrat) and the vice-chair is Cllr John Bevan (Labour). There is only one member from the Association’s three wards: Cllr Melanie Gingell (Alexandra Park), who also chairs the Alexandra Palace and Park Board. Cllr Tammy Hymas (Green) is the lead member for planning policy.

Haringey planning website
We have discovered a feature of the site which may be of use if anyone is carrying out some research .  Entering just the street name brings up all the applications for that road starting with the most recent..

Updates — Town Centre
As previously anticipated, the local branch of TG Jones has been identified as one of the first shops to be disposed of as part of a major reduction in the firm’s estate, owing to severe financial difficulties. This shop was of course previously WH Smith which has traded from those premises for over a century. The shop occupies a prominent position on the Broadway and should hopefully be easy to let. Although its future remains uncertain, the committee hopes that the existing frontage will be replaced with something more pleasing, particularly with the removal of the shutter.

Planning policy — Draft Local Plan
There is no news about the date for the next stage of the process: consultation on a Proposed Submission Local Plan. .
