March 2025 Conservation Report

Planning Applications and Enforcement
- 1 Muswell Mews N10. We submitted an objection to the latest scheme for this tiny site between the Broadway and Wellfield Avenue. This time, the proposal is for a single-family dwelling with an entire floor below ground. We object that the drawings do not show any proposals for windows in the basement and that it is inappropriate for a whole floor of a residential building to be without access to natural light and fresh air.
- Grove Lawn Tennis Club, Cascade Avenue N10. An appeal has been submitted against the council’s decision to refuse permission for the change of use to residential of the tennis courts on the Rookfield Estate (8 houses and a residential dwelling in the pavilion). It will be a two-day public hearing, with the first day set for 10 June 2025. It is understood that the local campaign group will be represented.
- Alexandra Park. The planning application to install a temporary Victorian-inspired helter-skelter is now open to public consultation. Click HERE for details.
Town Centre
- Martin Moore, the kitchen outfitter next to the post office, has closed.
- A vet called Creature Comforts is opening on Broadway.
- Former Barclays Bank. Wonderlost has made an application to provide a family-oriented cafe and play space in connection with the proposed conversion. Some minor changes to the appearance are proposed, as would be expected, e.g., replacing the areas that had ATMs with windows. The signage will be externally illuminated.
