October 2025 Conservation Report

NEW

Kiosk 382 Muswell Hill Broadway (HGY/2025/2129). This relates to the disused telephone kiosk near Waitrose. Consent has been refused. BT had applied to convert the kiosk to a hub along the lines of similar ones proposed at other locations. While we welcomed the removal of all redundant street furniture, we objected to the kiosk being replaced by a hub. It is located in a busy area, and if people took advantage of the proposed services (e.g., Wi-Fi and free UK phone calls), it would obstruct the pavement, next to a busy bus stop serving four routes. We also stressed that it would not make a positive contribution to the appearance and character of the conservation area. Haringey’s reasons to refuse consent mirror our objection very much.

UPDATES

  • Grove Lawn Tennis Club, Cascade Avenue N10 (HGY/2023/0733) – nine homes. The appeal has been dismissed.
  • Illuminated fascia at the Vietnamese street restaurant on the roundabout. A rather garish internally illuminated fascia was installed without permission when the restaurant opened. We objected to it as a planning enforcement case and are pleased to report that a more acceptable alternative approach has now been installed.
  • Library – We have confirmed the reopening date as 29 September, and it appears that this will be the first time all nine of the borough’s libraries have been open since the pandemic.
  • Planning Policy. Haringey cabinet has approved the draft of the New Local Plan for consultation, so we are finally underway.
